Spring is Coming to the AllagashMarch 8, 2012 Yesterday we took two spring fishing reservations and it reminded us that we are approaching the end of our winter season here on Ross Stream. We know there is still a lot of time between now and open water, but the signs of spring are beginning. Today we have reached a temperature of 54 degrees with warm winds and just since this morning we have seen a lot of melting. The forecast tells us today we are feeling the effects of a solar storm. If we had known, we would have checked out the clear sky last night to see if the Aurora Borealis (a.k.a. Northern Lights) were out there. We will be closed from mid-March until the 1st of May this year. By mid-May we expect there will be some good fishing. We are already salivating over our first meal of brook trout. It will be good to put away the snow shovels and get out the fly rods. Our winter season was a relatively mild one. Our groups of snowsledders that stayed with us reported some "fantastic" riding this year. Other groups passing through that stopped by for coffee and to warm up reported good riding as well. We are seeing a bit more activity with backcountry riding in our neck of the woods this year. This type of riding requires knowledge of the region, ability to read maps, compasses and gps, and skills in backcountry survival if the unexpected happens. Preparation is crucial to a safe trip and a good time. We want to take this opportunity to thank our winter guests for staying with us again this year. Though we are anxious for spring time in the Allagash, we have truly enjoyed our winter season with all our visitors. Remember snowmobilers, we are open in the spring, summer and fall too! As mentioned, the camps will be closed starting mid-March but we can still be reached any time at 207-944-9995 or by e-mail at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it . Spring season is the time for renewal and rebirth. We hope to see you then. Tight lines, John and Reggie (and Maggie too)
